Environmental remediation services

CIRI acquired North Wind Inc. at the close of 2009. North Wind provides a wide range of environmental cleanup and restoration, waste management, engineering, project management and construction services for government and large industrial and resource development sites nationwide.

The U.S. Air Force station, located 106 miles northwest of Nome, Alaska, was part of the early warning radar defense system in Alaska during the Cold War. It is now a Long Range Radar site as part of the Air Force's Alaska Radar System. Image courtesy of North Wind Inc.

2011 has been a busy year for North Wind. An example of recent contracts won is a $12-million, 2-year contract awarded to North Wind Services LLC by the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of River Protection for engineering, environmental and related technical, management and administrative support services at a decommissioned nuclear production complex on the Columbia River in Washington state.

North Wind opened a new office in San Diego, Calif., in 2011. The new location will support North Wind's contracts with Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest at the El Centro Naval Air Station and provide environmental remediation and construction services.

North Wind has more than 400 employees in 16 offices nationwide and projects located throughout the United States and abroad. It has a large portfolio of contracts with government and commercial customers, including the Departments of Energy, Defense and the Interior, NASA, and commercial interests including Bechtel Corp., Chevron Phillips Chemical, Duke Energy and General Electric.
