Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act

Anniversary marks 40 years of progress

Today, Alaska Native corporations generate statewide economic benefits, including jobs, revenue and resource development. They have also reversed the traditional Alaska business model that had Outside businesses come into the state to develop Alaska resources, and then export their profits to out-of-state owners. Instead, Alaska Native corporations use their business acumen and economic resources to do business in and outside of Alaska and keep profits in the state for Alaskan shareholders or to reinvest in Alaska business and development. Alaska Native corporations also help diversify Alaska's economy by expanding beyond natural resource extraction-based businesses into new industries.

During the past 40 years Alaska Native corporations have steadily and sustainably enhanced the quality of life of tens of thousands of Alaska Native people. Every social indicator, including income, education, employment, health care, housing and life expectancy has improved. Alaska Native corporations today rank among Alaska's largest companies and do business across the state, the nation and internationally. They benefit the state economy and create opportunities for Alaska Native shareholders by boosting their standard of living through dividends, jobs and scholarships.
