Employees Make the Holidays Brighter for Early Head Start Children
On Dec. 14, Southcentral Foundation’s Head Start and Early
Head Start program enjoyed a visit from Santa Claus with a variety
of gifts for the program’s children. CIRI employees and tenants
of the CIRI building contributed toys and books for 38 children
in Early Head Start.
Head Start is a national program that provides comprehensive child
development services for low-income children, ages 3-5, and their
families. The Head Start goal is to help the children and their
families achieve their full potential. Head Start programs provide
health, nutrition, education, social and other services.
Early Head Start provides comprehensive, culturally appropriate
education, special needs assessment, health, nutrition services,
family services and family involvement for children ages six weeks
to 5 years old and are Alaska Native or American Indian children
and their families who meet federal Head Start eligibility requirements
and meet program selection criteria.
Southcentral Foundation’s Head Start has a total of 233 children
participating in the program at two locations. Early Head
Start has 38 infants and toddlers, and Head Start has 195 children
enrolled.
CIRI’s giving program was organized by Danielle Larsen, CIRI’s
communications and events coordinator. “It was a pleasure
to see CIRI employees and other employees in the building eager
to provide for these kids,” said Larsen. “It certainly
makes this time of year a little brighter.” |
