Medical Center Auxillary Accepting Scholarship Applications

The Alaska Native Medical Center Auxiliary will award scholarships of up to $1,000 each to selected Alaska Native students graduating from high school in 2004. To be considered, students must be an Alaska Native or Native American eligible for services at the Alaska Native Medical Center and provide a scholarship folder with personal history; official transcripts; summary of awards, activities and achievements; a statement of educational and career goals; and evidence of acceptance to a four-year college or accredited vocational school. Applicants will be judged on leadership abilities, academic potential and achievement, financial need, and participation in Native culture groups and activities.

Students must submit an official application to the judging committee no later than April 16, 2004. The scholarship folder will be reviewed at the interview and should not be submitted with the application. Interviews will be completed by May 7, 2004, and winners will be guests of the Auxiliary at the annual awards brunch.

For an official application, contact Jeanne Dougherty, 3405 Vassar Drive, Anchorage, AK 99508, (907) 279-7736. The Alaska Native Medical Center Auxiliary staffs the Alaska Native Medical Center Craft Shop. The traditional Native arts and crafts are sold on a consignment basis and a percentage of the sales is retained by the Auxiliary to support the ongoing Auxiliary program of patient support and scholarships to Native high school graduates as well as maintain the Heritage Collection.
