Foundation Addresses Health Care Access
Southcentral Foundation, CIRI’s non-profit health care affiliate,
is revamping the patient empanelment process for new patients at
the Anchorage Native Primary Care Center. The Alaska Native Healthcare
System for the State of Alaska is designed based on residency for
access to primary care services. Each region in Alaska provides
care to the patients in their respective regions. According to Katherine
Gottlieb, president and chief executive officer of Southcentral
Foundation, this helps in addressing the large size of the state
and the lack of transportation infrastructure. It also allows regions
to serve their own populations and manage their region’s health
care resources.
Southcentral Foundation serves the Anchorage Service Unit, which
is 107,000 square miles extending as far north as McGrath, as far
east as the Canadian Border and also includes the Aleutian Chain.
To better serve this region, Southcentral Foundation is working
with all Anchorage Bowl patients to select a primary care provider
and to find information on other services that may be available
to them.

Authority Still Accepting Applications for New Elder Rental Property
Cook Inlet Housing Authority is still accepting applications for
Kenaitze Pointe, Anchorage’s newest independent senior rental
facility. Apartments are available in the property’s east
wing and are expected to be available for rent in late August.
Kenaitze Pointe contains 53 apartments (47 one- bedroom and six
two-bedroom units) in two wings, separated by a grand community
room and kitchen. The property is situated, along with Cook Inlet
Housing Authority’s existing elder rental facilities, in a
secluded area in East Anchorage offering fantastic views of the
Chugach Mountains.
Amenities include a library, large-screen TV room, crafts rooms,
computer lab, and small sitting areas on most floors. Common area
laundry rooms and individual tenant storage areas are located on
each floor as well, and the property contains an elevator in each
wing, heated sidewalks, and an on-site manager’s office. Three
units are fully equipped for elders with disabilities, and all units
have emergency equipment for occupants with sight and sound impairments.
Extensive landscaping will be completed this summer.
For more information, contact Cook Inlet Housing Authority at (907)
276-8822, visit www.cookinlethousing.org
or stop by CIHA’s main offices at 3510 Spenard Road in Anchorage.
