AIC Recognized
for Safety Achievement
Alaska Interstate Construction (AIC), a civil construction company
and joint venture of CIRI's, was recently commended with a safety
achievement for going one year without experiencing a lost time
or recordable accident on the job. The achievement award was recognized
by Teck Pogo, Inc. for AIC's work at the Pogo gold property located
in eastern Alaska. May 24, 2005, marked one year that AIC has had
zero lost time incidents at the Pogo worksite.
"This is very impressive considering the harsh conditions
which included forest fires and very steep and dangerous terrain
we had to deal with while building a 50-mile access road,"
said Dave Chaput, HSE manager.
AIC is active in the oil, gas, and mining industries in Alaska
and has assisted with the development of several major pipeline
projects throughout the state and operates the state's largest fleet
of heavy equipment to construct gravel roads. A lost time accident
is one that takes the employee off the job for at least one full
day.
When it comes to resource development, health, safety, and protecting
the environment are fundamental to AIC. The company maintains an
ISO 14001 certificate for its Environmental Management System and
is Alaska's first contractor to partner with the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA) Construction Health and Safety
Excellence (CHASE) Program in an effort to continually improve worker
health and safety at POGO and all of its worksites. AIC has also
been the recipient of the BP North Slope Environmental Achievement
Award for its activities on the North Slope and continues to receive
an annual Green Star Award for reducing pollution.
