Karla Dickson Weds

Shareholder Karla Dickson and Mark Kahklen were married on June 1, 2002. A blind date brought them together and a 21-plus-year relationship brought them to exchange long awaited vows at the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Guests, including the bride’s parents, Alan and Katherine Dickson; the groom’s parents, Albert and Florence Kahklen, and Sammy Gonzalo; along with many family and well wishers gathered to witness the momentous occasion. Karla works as an eligibility technician for the Division of Public Assistance, and Mark is a property disposal specialist for Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service. The couple shares a home in Eagle River with their two dogs and looks forward to spending another 21-plus years together.

Leggett Joins Navy

CIRI descendant Adam John Leggett, who is Dena'ina Athabascan and whose family is from Eklutna, enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 3, 2002, as a Seaman Apprentice. He is the son of shareholder Diane Buls and grandson of shareholders Gilbert and Marie Rosenberg. After completing eight weeks of basic training at the recruit training center in Great Lakes, Ill., he proceeded to Electronics Warfare Technician "A" School in Pensacola, Fla., for 14 weeks of training. EWSA Leggett graduated "A" school in December and received his orders to the USS Carl Vinson, whose homeport is Bremerton, Wash.
