Alaska Native Heritage Center Offers Peter Lind Master Artist Workshop

In April, from the 11th through the 22nd, Peter Lind (Alutiiq) will be the featured artist for the ExxonMobil Master Artist Class at the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Lind was born in Chignik Lagoon, Alaska. He learned to paint at an early age and carved his first little boat at age seven. He worked for a cannery for many years and had access during the winter to the cannery’s workshop, which is where he says he started making ivory cribbage boards. He always carves from a single piece of ivory and creates very detailed work. Lind makes jewelry: pins, necklaces and earrings, Alutiiq visors and masks. He has taught Alaska Native Art for 25 years in Alaska schools. The cost of the two-week class, which is from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., is $175.
