Born in Palmer and reared in Anchorage, Magee graduated from West Anchorage High School with honors. After high school, she began working for CIRI. With the help of Cook Inlet Housing Authority, she bought a home at the age of 19.

In her spare time, Magee enjoys beading necklaces, earrings and bracelets; her jewelry is noted for having intricate, unique designs.
