"GET OUT THE NATIVE VOTE" ENCOURAGES ALL ALASKA NATIVES TO VOTE

Casting your vote ensures that your voice is heard in determining Alaska's future. In November, voters have the chance to radically change the face of the Alaska Legislature for the first time in 10 years.

According to the Get Out the Native Vote committee, due to redistricting a total of 60 legislators will serve in Juneau and 57 of the 60 legislators are up for re-election. This includes some legislators who have voted against issues important to the lives of Alaska Natives. The November general election is an opportunity to vote for new representation by electing people to Juneau who understand and respect issues important to all Alaska Natives.

In October, Get Out the Native Vote will post responses to their candidate questionnaire online at www.aknativevote.com. A series of questions related to Alaska Native issues was asked of various legislators and their responses will be available on the web site, providing a valuable tool to learn more about the various candidates.

If you are not sure where you vote now that the districts have changed or who the candidates are in your district, log on to www.aknativevote.com. On the main page there is a button called "What's My District." If you type in your address, you will learn your district, polling place and the candidates in your area.

If you need more information or don't have access to the Internet, call Get Out the Native Vote at (907) 263-5195.
