Assistant Executive Director, The CIRI Foundation
The CIRI Foundation is seeking a full-time assistant executive director. This position falls under the direction of the executive director and is responsible for assisting in directing the overall staff, program and administrative activities of the organization. This person works closely with and reports regularly to the executive director to develop the Foundation's mission, vision and strategies and is responsible for the effective use of financial and human resources of the organization.
 
Applicants must have knowledge and skills appropriate for administration of an educational and cultural heritage foundation and its programs with particular knowledge about Alaska Native history and cultures, institutions such as museums, cultural centers, postsecondary institutions, foundations and trends in higher education and employment opportunities. Additional skills and abilities are stated in the position description.
 
Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in business, education or a related field and eight years progressively responsible experience in the management of education, cultural or corporate human relations programs or any combination of training and experience providing the required skills, knowledge, and abilities to assist in the administration of a non-profit education and heritage foundation.

ANHC Job Opportunities
The Alaska Native Heritage Center, opening this May, is recruiting applicants for summer employment. The Center is seeking food and beverage workers, demonstrating artists, and village site staff hosts and crew. Native American Preparatory School Seeks Applicants
The Native American Preparatory School (NAPS), located in New Mexico, is taking applications for students on a "rolling" space available basis. NAPS is a student-centered program that provides a stimulating, four-year college preparatory experience stressing character and cultural development through a curriculum encompassing academics, community service, athletics, and the arts. NAPS is dedicated to providing talented Native American students with educational opportunities of the highest quality in an academic and social environment that recognizes the culture of the student as fundamental to his or her education.
 
Admission to NAPS is based solely on merit with an understanding that students have demonstrated potential to succeed in a college preparatory curriculum, as well as contribute positively to the community. Students entering ninth through eleventh grades are encouraged to apply. Admission requirements include carrying at least a "B" average, having good teacher recommendations, and taking the ISEE test.
 
While the cost of tuition is $24,000 a year, currently, 100 percent of the students receive financial aid based on family need. No student is denied admission because of financial need. NAPS has an annual budget of $1.5 million in financial aid.

Year Round Fellowships and
Summer Internship Positions Available
The Greenlining Institute, a Multi-Ethnic Public Policy Institute located in San Francisco, is seeking candidates for its Multi-Ethnic Academy Fellowships and Internships in Public Policy and Economic Development.
 
The Academy is a public policy and leadership training program for recent college graduates and graduate students who are pursuing careers in the field of public policy, urban planning, minority advocacy, and economic development.
 
Academy participants enhance their writing and research skills, gain ample experience in policy analysis, advocacy, public speaking, grantwriting, community organizing, networking with corporate, community and government leaders, and understanding of key minority economic development issues.
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in a related field or be a master's candidate or recent graduate from a masters program in a related field. Ideal candidates should have solid experience working with minority community groups and be familiar with public policy or community development issues.
Eight positions are available for a paid ten-week, intensive, summer public policy and leadership training program beginning June 14 through August 20, 1999. Participants work individually on low-income, minority economic development issues as well as on team projects. A $1600 monthly stipend, before taxes, is provided.
Five year-round fellowship positions are available in low-income, minority economic development issues. The fellowships begin between August and October of 1999 and are one year in duration. Fellows receive a monthly stipend of $2,000, before taxes, as well as a small health benefits stipend and payment of interest on student loans.
