CIRI SPOTLIGHT:

Kathy Stewart, Secretary,

CIRI Tourism

Kathy Stewart loves her work as a secretary in CIRI's dynamic tourism offices. She describes the energy there as being positive and strong. As a new mom, she needs all the energy she can get these days. She delivered her baby boy on December 2, 1999, so the past four months have been busy for her as she's adjusted her life to accommodate her new son.

A CIRI shareholder of Inupiat and Scandinavian descent, Stewart grew up in Anchorage and graduated from Dimond High School. She's been with her high school sweetheart for 20 years. Both of them enjoy camping and fishing around the Seward area. They look forward to introducing their son to the great fishing in Seward and around the Southcentral area. Stewart says that before her son takes his first step, he'll probably have caught his first fish. kathy stewart

Stewart has worked at CIRI for six years. Before going into tourism, she was shareholder records coordinator for five years.

Stewart looks forward to summer and to navigating the waters of Seward with her family. She loves being near the sea because, as the American writer Herman Melville once wrote, "there is magic in it." CIRI Mac b/w Kathy Stewart and son.

In her new position at CITC, Hays will be a resource person who is available to work with the family of Native organizations in the Cook Inlet region. With her 20 years of experience working with Native organizations in the area, her educational expertise, as well as her facilitating, strategic planning and program development skills, Hays is well-equipped for the position.

Hays also has practical experience that gives her a broad background as a resource person -- including positions as a secondary education teacher, curriculum writer, community and shareholder relations employee with CIRI and her many years of experience with the Foundation. Currently, Hays is chair of the Armed Services YMCA Anchorage Branch and a 24-year member of the Board of Trustees of Alaska Pacific University.
