Leask selected as a Woman of Achievement
CIRI shareholder and former board member Janie Leask was one of 10 women recognized as a BP/YWCA Woman of Achievement. Leask is manager of community relations for Alyeska Pipeline Service Company. Before joining Alyeska, she served as vice president of community development for National Bank of Alaska. Prior to her work at the bank, she spent 15 years with the Alaska Federation of Natives, and served for seven years as president. She is Haida-Tsimshian and Irish-German and was raised in both Metlakatla and Anchorage.
This was the eleventh year that the YWCA program recognized women of achievement in the Anchorage community. Selection criteria included the demonstration of sustained excellence, accomplishment, and creativity in profession; leadership, integrity, dedication, and motivation professionally and in the community; teamwork and willingness to share skills and expertise in the goals accomplishment; encouraging other women to view her as a role model; and commitment to improving the quality of life in the community.

Baby Mariella
Mariella Xochitl Gallegos-Rodriguez was born on Nov. 20, 2000 at 5:51 p.m. at the Alaska Native Medical Center. She weighed seven pounds, seven ounces. Mariella is the daughter of CIRI shareholder Neil Gallegos-Rodriguez and his wife Melissa Gallegos-Rodriguez. Mariellašs grandmother is CIRI shareholder Valerie Gallegos (Jacobsson). Mariella is also the great granddaughter of the late Mildred and Charles (Carly) Jacobsson.
