Chris Kiana Earns Second Master's Degree & Writes Books CIRI shareholder Chris Kiana received a master's degree in rural development from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in May. This is his second master's degree. His first was a master's of business administration from Alaska Pacific University. When Kiana isn't busy with his contract/consulting business he writes. He has written a book for children titled "Wally, The Lost Baby Walrus," illustrated by his mother Minni Kiana Morkem. He has also written the mystery novel "Alaska Crying Baby," and is currently working on another book for children. |

Christopher Velez Graduates CIRI descendent Christopher Juan Velez graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in theology from the Baptist College of Florida in January 2002. He is a 1997 honor graduate of West High School and is the son of CIRI shareholder Nora Velez and her husband Raphael of Anchorage. Juan was listed in "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities" and now works for the Indian Health Service in San Antonio, Texas. He is thankful for The CIRI Foundation's support, which helped him through college. |

Francisca Talavera an Intern/Consultant for Sesnon CIRI shareholder Fran Talavera is a graduate intern, sponsored in part by The CIRI Foundation, working as a consultant for Sesnon Consulting in Seattle, Wash. Talavera facilitates the development and administration of national and international non-profit organizations in her capacity as an intern/consultant for Sesnon, which specializes in social enterprise consulting for non-profit organizations. She has completed a policy manual for the Washington Literacy volunteer program and in May she joined fellow employees on a trip to London to provide social enterprise consulting. A graduate student at Seattle University, Talavera is studying for a master's degree in non-profit administration. A graduation chair, she will receive her master's degree in December of 2002. For her thesis project, she plans to focus on a CIRI sponsored non-profit or educational organization with the idea that her research be pragmatic and beneficial to Alaska Native people. |
