Descendant Participates in Leadership Anchorage Program
CIRI descendant
Chanda Aloysius-Peet says Leadership Anchorage has changed her life
and she gives much of the credit to her Leadership Anchorage mentor,
Barbara Donatelli, CIRI's executive vice president.
Aloysius-Peet,
who is special assistant to the chief of staff at Southcentral Foundation,
knew right away that she wanted Donatelli to be her mentor when selected
for the Leadership Anchorage program, which is designed to identify
and nurture community leaders. Each program participant is paired with
an established leader who volunteers time to ensure the program involves
greater numbers of ethnic and cultural minority citizens in civic activities
and decision making.
|
Aloysius-Peet
says that "anything is possible if you don't care who gets the credit"
is the statement that has helped her the most during her participation,
and it is Donatelli's example that gives her greater understanding of
how to put the philosophy to work every day.
Aloysius-Peet
also looks forward to using the skills she has developed through the
Leadership Anchorage program at Southcentral Foundation, where she is
able to work toward a more secure future for all Alaska Natives. She
helped develop Southcentral's mission of "working together with the
Native community to achieve wellness through health and related services,"
which goes beyond the absence of illness and prevention of disease to
fostering physical, mental, social, spiritual, and economic wellness.
And she feels she has garnered tools to be more effective in this effort.
