Baby Daniel
Daniel Joseph Huhndorf was born April 3, 2001, at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. He weighed eight pounds, 11.8 ounces and was 21 inches long. Daniel is the son of CIRI shareholder Thomas P. Huhndorf and his wife Grace. Daniel joins 10-year-old brother Jacob and 15-year-old sister Ashley. He is the grandson of CIRI shareholder Stanley J. Huhndorf and wife Caroline of Nikiski, Alaska.

Danielle Barrett Reaches New heights
Avid mountain climber and CIRI shareholder Danielle Barrett recently returned from climbing to 13,000 feet on Mt. Malchin in Mongolia. In the past she has climbed Mt. Baker and Mt. Rainier in Washington and Mt. Killamanjaro in Africa.

Danielle had a wonderful time eating Mongolian food consisting of yak meat, sausage, milk and butter. She found the Mongolian people to be friendly, yet aloof. Because of their facial features, she thought she was in Tlingit country.

Shareholder Opens High Five Awards
CIRI shareholder Ray Bouwens recently opened a new business, High Five Awards and Engraving, specializing in trophies and engraving in Anchorage.

Gilbert Joins Four Generations

CIRI shareholder Minnie Gilbert recently gathered with her daughter Gloria Zietlow, granddaughter Lisa Logan and great granddaughter Jade Logan for a family photo of the four generations.

CIRI Descendant Zachary Lemm Grows Another Big Cabbage
Six-year-old CIRI descendant Zachary Lemm knows how to grow big cabbage. The 47.2-pound cabbage he grew last year was so large it won first place at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer in the junior division. This year, with more experience in feeding and caring for plants, he submitted a larger cabbage. Grandson of CIRI shareholder Louise Todd and Edward Topkok Sr., Zachary will be a first grader and loves to eat pizza.

Jessica Murphy Excels in Studies
Jessica Murphy, daughter of CIRI descendant Brandi Murphy, was recently named to the Baylor University dean's list after two full semesters at the university in Waco, Texas. Jessica was recognized as a distinguished scholar in the honors program and is a member of Alpha Lamda Delta honor society. She is studying business and marketing and earned a 3.81 grade point average last year. In her spare time she is active in her sorority Kappa Alpha Theta and the Waco community. Jessica spent her summer earning 12 additional hours studying in Mexico with the Baylor summer exchange program.

Rodriguez Promoted
CIRI shareholder Neil Gallegos-Rodriguez joined the State of Alaska Department of Community and Economic Development, Division of International Trade and Market Development as a research analyst last April. Rodriguez was previously employed as a research associate at First Nations Development Institute in Virginia and then as a rural planner for RurAL CAP in Anchorage. Neil, a former CIRI intern, is a graduate of Brandeis University, with a bachelor's degree in economics. He is the only son of CIRI shareholder Valerie Gallegos and grandson of the late Mildred (Gwich'in Athabascan) and Carly Jacobsson (Yup'ik). Neil and his wife Melissa have a daughter named Mariella.

Five Roehl Generations Gather
Marie Millet recently celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by four generations of relatives.

CIRI shareholder Jannell Sonnen-Shaginaw and Michael R. Nolen were married June 23, 2001, in Winter Haven, Fla.

Thomas and Curtis wed

CIRI shareholders Scharlott Evon (Richardson) Curtis and Mark Earl Thomas were married May 11, 2001, in a civil ceremony in Kenai, Alaska. Scharlott is the daughter of the late George and Delcie Richardson. She is co-owner of Forget-Me-Not Quilting in Kenai. Mark is the son of Bette Thomas and the late Earl Thomas. He volunteers his driving skills to a community outreach program in Soldotna. They will make their home in Nikiski.

Toliver Builds Business With Distribution
CIRI shareholder Tony Toliver built a unique business with money received from the CIRI special distribution. In June, he purchased a 40-foot limousine bus. The limousine bus is equipped with a range of amenities to suit a variety of needs for his new business, "Extreme Party on Wheels."
