Shareholder Committee Members A Link for CIRI
Members of CIRI's Shareholder Participation Committees meet three times annually to discuss issues of importance to shareholders. They have actively participated on the CIRI Nominating Committee, which interviews and recommends candidates to the CIRI Board for the CIRI and affiliated nonprofit organizations' boards of directors. They have also advised the CIRI Board and management on various issues such as the creation of an elders benefits program and the revised proxy form.

In 1995, the CIRI Board of Directors formed the three Shareholder Participation Committees to increase communication between shareholders and the corporation. The committees were devised to identify issues of importance to shareholders, while also serving as an informational source about the corporation's mission, business operations and corporate policies.

To best serve all CIRI shareholders, three individual committees were formed to represent not only shareholders living in Anchorage, but shareholders residing throughout Alaska and in the Lower 48 states. The three committees are comprised of an Anchorage committee, an Alaska committee made up of shareholders living outside of the Anchorage Municipality and the Lower 48 committee.

Committee members are selected by a random drawing held shortly after the annual meeting of shareholders each year and serve three-year terms, which begin at the time of the drawing and expire at the annual meeting three years later.

While the Shareholder Participation Committees have provided input for the special shareholder vote as well as ideas and suggestions for the CIRI web site and shareholder newsletter, they are now looking to the future. At their upcoming meetings in October, which correspond with the annual Alaska Federation of Natives Convention, they plan to discuss how to best communicate with CIRI descendants and increase their involvement in the company, since they will become the future generation of shareholders. Other discussion items include shareholder research, on-going communication through the newsletter and web site, and nonprofit services.
