Medicine Dream

Intertribal band Medicine Dream nominated for NAMMYs

Local intertribal band Medicine Dream followed up their 2007 NAMMY Award for Best Music Video for their song "In This World" with two additional Native American Music Award nominations: one for Best Rock Recording for "Learning to Fly" and another for Song/Single of the Year for "Way of the Warrior."

Founded in 1996 by lead vocalist Paul Pike, lead guitarist George Newton, and drummer/vocalist Buz Daney, the Native/pop/rock/fusion group has performed extensively ever since throughout Alaska and the Lower 48. Their third album, "Learning to Fly," was nominated for Best Rock CD for an Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Award, Canada's version of the NAMMYs. Their first two CDs are "Mawio'mi" and "Tomegan Gospem."

In addition to Pike, Newton, and Daney, the band includes Steven Alvarez, CIRI shareholder George Newton - who joined the band in 1997 - John Field, Ralph Sara and Dave Helzer.

Medicine Dream has made the fight against drug and alcohol abuse its mission in an effort to help prevent suicide and despair among our nation's youth - whether Alaska Native, Native American or any other ethnicity.

"Medicine Dream has felt so honored to have been nominated for the NAMMYs," Pike said. "Since the beginning, we've always felt that success for us would be if we could compose and perform our own music for a modest fan base in Alaska. Anything else would be icing on the cake. It's been 12 years and we've been fortunate to have a lot of icing come our way."

"We'd like to thank everyone who supported us and for being a part of our dream," said Pike. Visit www.medicinedream.com to view their NAMMY Award-wining video for "In This World" or hear other songs.
