A Message from CIRI Director Robert Harris
My name is Robert Harris, and it has been my honor and privilege to serve on the CIRI Board of Directors since 2011.
The beginning of this year has brought unprecedented challenges, and I hope you and your family are healthy and well. Despite the difficulties we face today, I believe that by remaining true to our guiding values, we will succeed and prosper in the years ahead.
I am Inupiaq. My parents moved to Alaska in the early 1950s, initially settling in the Bristol Bay region. I was adopted at birth and grew up on a homestead in North Kenai and in Anchorage. I met my birth family about a decade ago and it is through them that I received my CIRI shares. I am indeed fortunate to be part of two loving and amazing families.
While growing up, I learned the values of honesty, hard work and persistence. I was the first in my family to attend college, graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with degrees in economics and engineering. I later completed master’s degrees from the University of Washington in both engineering and business. I’ve worked throughout Alaska in the fields of finance and engineering, and I enjoy the challenge of finding innovative solutions to help people improve their lives.
Companies that are nimble enough to harness the winds of change develop strength and achieve lasting success. To overcome roadblocks and continue to maintain a competitive edge, CIRI must champion innovation as part of its overall business strategy. We must seize opportunities as they become available and continue to grow the company for the long-term benefit of our people.
Looking ahead, I encourage all shareholders and descendants to become involved with your corporation. Talk with CIRI staff and Board members, seek out the wisdom of Elders, and connect with young people so they can learn what it means to take an active role in shaping the future of CIRI. We are going to need the ideas, talents and perspectives of all to continue innovating and moving our company forward.
CIRI’s Board of Directors is committed to keeping the lines of communication open with our shareholders. We encourage you to keep in touch with us and provide your input, ideas, questions or suggestions by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
