Allan Tucker Blatchford, 69

Allan Tucker Blatchford passed away Dec. 29, 2015, in Homer, Alaska. Mr. Blatchford was born Oct. 10, 1946, in Nome, Alaska. Mr. Blatchford loved Native food; carving ivory, whale bone and baleen; gardening and seeing the beauty in life. He is survived by his children, Andrea and Smokey; sisters, Bernice, Violet, Gladys and Rose; and numerous relatives.

Daniel Johnson, 94

Daniel Johnson passed away Dec. 3, 2015, at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna, Alaska. Mr. Johnson was born Oct. 30, 1921, in Kinak, Alaska. Mr. Johnson was given the Yup’ik name of Ellqialek by his parents. Following his service in the Army with the 1985th Service Command United in support of World War II, Mr. Johnson returned to Alaska with his wife and young family. He loved his family, fishing and processing the catch, playing cards, watching the Steelers games and welcoming friends and family into his home. Mr. Johnson is survived by his children, Michael O. Johnson, Debra L. Douglas and John A. Johnson; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Betty Lee Stonefield, 74

Betty Lee Stonefield passed away Dec. 22, 2015, at home in Wasilla, Alaska. Ms. Stonefield was born Feb. 8, 1941, in Anchorage. Ms. Stonefield was affectionately known as “Graham Cracker” by her grandchildren and family. She loved animals, was an avid reader in her early years and enjoyed crafts. Ms. Stonefield is survived by her children, Lizzetta Gogerty, Tony Hutchison, R.L. Hutchinson, and Roxi Harper; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

George Frederick Thiele, 87

George Frederick Thiele passed away Oct. 7, 2015, at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. Mr. Thiele was born May 21, 1928, in Tatlarviksak, Alaska. Mr. Thiele is remembered as being a good family man and friend, and legendary in flying and hunting circles worldwide. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Lee Thiele; children, Linda Caswell, Richard Thiele and Clarence Alfred Thiele; brother, Reinhold Thiele; sisters, Bertha Tolbert and Louise Novak; brother-in-law, Steve Novak; many nieces, nephews and grandchildren; and best friends, Jorgy Jorgensen and George Seetuk.
