CIRI shareholder Jessica Bissett Perea was awarded a prestigious University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship for the 2011-2012 academic year and will be in residence at the University of California, Berkeley Department of Music. She graduated with a Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of California, Los Angeles in June 2011, and as a postdoctoral fellow she will continue her research on contemporary Alaska Native musical life. Perea and her husband John-Carlos Perea live in San Francisco and are expecting their first child this November.
