Martina Lucy Demyan died April 25 at the Prestige Care and Rehabilitation Center in Anchorage. Ms. Demyan was born March 11, 1935, in Hamilton, Alaska, to George and Philomena Ochdaryuke-Oktoyok. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading and watching basketball. She is survived by her brother, Bernard F. Oktoyak, and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Rose Mary Hunter, 59
Rose Mary Hunter died April 22 at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. Ms. Hunter was born July 2, 1951, in Anchorage. She is survived by her husband, Vernon Hunter Jr.; sons, Johnny and Fred Mosquito; and sisters, Lucille Whisenant, Florence Pennington and Lillian Hanaka.

Klaas L. Karels, 48
Klaas L. Karels died April 9 in Kingman, Ariz. Mr. Karels was born Feb. 27, 1963, in Anchorage. He is survived by his mother, Carrie Karels; his twin brother, John A. Karels; brother, Donald W. Karels; and sisters, Gloria J. Henderson, Glenda M. Karels-Smith and Geniene G. Karels.

William L. Phelps Jr., 44
William L. Phelps Jr. died April 8 at home in Anchorage. Mr. Phelps was born March 12, 1967, in Aberdeen, Wash. He is survived by his father, William L. Phelps; sister, Samantha Bonter; and aunts, Marie Curry, Beverly DeViaene and Chissy Holden.

Stephen Lydell Smart, 39
Stephen Lydell Smart died Feb. 2 at home in Hobart, Okla. Mr. Smart was born Oct. 7, 1971, in Los Angeles, Calif. He is survived by his son, Sundance Steven Smart; parents, Ronald L. and Jane A. Smart; sister, Emily Jane Smart; and brother, David Landon Smart.

Minnie A. Smith, 64
Minnie A. Smith died April 14 at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Wash. Ms. Smith was born May 30, 1946, in Kanakanak, Alaska. She is survived by her husband, John W. Smith; daughter, Jeweline Lakshas (and her husband, Brent, and daughters, Bristol, Kylan and Jayce); sons, Chris, Stanley (and his wife, Stacey, and daughter, Kindra) and Lloyd Smith (and his wife, Katherine, and daughter, Isabella); sisters, Dorothy Larson, Juanita Pelagio, Luanne Pelagio and Amelia Mainord; and brother, Jacinto Pelagio.

Gary Wilson Tolen, 61
Gary Wilson Tolen died April 17 at Partnership in Care in Bend, Ore. Mr. Tolen was born Dec. 13, 1949, in Anchorage to Don Tolen and Anita McClure. He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War and received two Purple Heart Medals. He is survived by his wife, Deborah P. Tolen; son, James W. Tolen; sisters, Kari McFeron and Sandy Giroux; brother, Greg Tolen; one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
