New programming on Alaska public television is receiving recognition for helping to educate children about the diverse Alaska Native cultures and languages. In My Family is a series of short vignettes that appear during children’s programming on public television. The vignettes highlight words from Alaska Native languages about family, home and Alaska’s surroundings.
On its website (http://cpb.org/features/native-cultures-alaska-sd) recently, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting touted the good work In My Family is doing in Alaska to raise awareness about indigenous cultures. In addition, the program is growing in popularity. Raven, the puppet that appears in the vignettes, is now in demand to appear at schools, the Alaska Native Heritage Center and the Alaska State Fair.
