In Touch: CIRI Elder Honored

Original CIRI shareholder Randi Markussen is pleased to share that her mother, original CIRI shareholder Dorothy Hermansen (Athabascan), has been recognized as the Kenaitze Indian Tribe’s oldest-living Elder. Ninety-year-old Hermansen was honored at KIT’s First Fish Potlatch May 5 in Kenai, Alaska. The oldest of 13 children, Hermansen is the daughter of the late Louise Wilson and the late Carl Petterson. She has lived in the same home in Kenai since 1953 and still works her family’s setnet commercial fishing site.
