CIRI is recognized as an Indian Tribe under the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act of 1975 and the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act of 1996. CIRI delegates its Tribal authority under these statutes to three organizations: Cook Inlet Housing Authority, Cook Inlet Tribal Council, and Southcentral Foundation.
Cook Inlet Housing Authority creates affordable housing opportunities that empower all low-income people in the CIRI region, which drives economic development and promotes healthy communities.

Southcentral Foundation is an ISDEAA Title V Self-Governance Compactor delivering comprehensive outpatient and inpatient regional health services to more than 70,000 Alaska Native and American Indian people living in the Indian Health Service’s Anchorage Service Unit. Southcentral Foundation also provides a wide array of outpatient and inpatient health services to more than 155,000 Alaska Native and American Indian people living throughout Alaska.

The Alaska Native Heritage Center was created by a unanimous vote of the Alaska Federation of Natives and is strongly supported by Alaska Native corporations across the state. The Alaska Native Heritage Center is a nationally recognized cultural center that showcases Alaska Native cultures and provides educational programs about the history and traditions of Alaska Native people to Alaskans and visitors from around the world.

The CIRI Foundation, established by the CIRI Board of Directors in 1982, is a private foundation that supports educational opportunities and cultural heritage. Since its founding, TCF has invested over $42 million in post-secondary education, providing scholarships to CIRI Original Shareholders and their lineal descendants.
In addition, TCF has awarded approximately $4.1 million through its Education and Heritage Project Grant Program to support nonprofit initiatives aligned with its mission.
