Permitting is required for all CIRI land use to ensure responsible stewardship and protect resources.
The use of CIRI lands requires an approved permit. By following the proper permitting process, visitors help preserve the land, respect cultural and environmental values, and support our shared responsibility as stewards of these lands.
Individuals who would like to access CIRI’s lands for recreational activities, like hiking, berry picking, hunting firewood gathering, for personal use can submit a request using this link:
(This is for individuals only. Commercial or scientific study uses must use the general land use permit.)
Every person with a CIRI Recreational Use or Land Use Permit is required to submit a report at the end of their permitted access dates.
CIRI updated the recreational use permit administrative fee schedule on April 1, 2026.
Each permit holder is required to submit a post-activity report that outlines the details of their activity on CIRI lands, and the condition of the land they accessed, at the end of their access period. A Post-Activity Report can be submitted using the following link:
One of CIRI’s corporate values is respect, which includes respect for the land and promoting responsible stewardship of CIRI resources. The company prioritizes the use of its land by Shareholders and Descendants for cultural, subsistence and recreational activities. When the activities are consistent with CIRI values, the company may also provide access opportunities to the general public.
Some of CIRI’s land parcels are adjacent to Village Corporation lands. If you wish to use Village Corporation lands, contact the appropriate Village representative directly.
Everyone who wishes to access CIRI land, including Shareholders and Descendants, must have a recreational use permit.
Members of the general public who apply for a Recreational Use Permit will be charged an administrative fee.
Fees for Recreational Use Permits do NOT apply to CIRI Shareholders or Descendants.
It is the responsibility of the individual recreational user, hunter and angler to know the ownership of the land(s) they plan to access. Maps can be obtained from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management or Alaska Department of Natural Resources.
Hunters and anglers may contact the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for game management unit boundaries and information on the current regulations. All federal, state and local laws apply to any CIRI land used.
Potential users may access CIRI land on a limited basis with a Land Use Permit upon review to determine the proposed use is consistent with CIRI values. Guides, hunters and anglers, campers, tour operators, photographers, scientists, dog mushers, and other outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to respect CIRI land and contact the CIRI Land and Resources Department to learn more about land use policies.
Individuals, agencies, or companies who would like to request access to or use of CIRI’s land for activities not related to recreational uses can submit their application and supporting documentation using this link:
(This is for non-recreational uses and not for resource development or extraction.)
